Remnant index theorem and low-lying eigenmodes for twisted mass fermions

چکیده
We analyze the low-lying spectrum and eigenmodes of lattice Dirac operators with a twisted mass term. The twist term expels the eigenvalues from a strip in the complex plane and all eigenmodes obtain a non-vanishing matrix element with γ5. For a twisted Ginsparg-Wilson operator the spectrum is located on two arcs in the complex plane. Modes due to non-trivial topological charge of the underlying gauge field have their eigenvalues at the edges of these arcs and obey a remnant index theorem. For configurations in the confined phase we find that the twist mainly affects the zero modes, while the bulk of the spectrum is essentially unchanged. PACS: 11.15.Ha

Low-lying spectrum for lattice Dirac operators with twisted mass

متن کاملLow-Lying Fermion Modes: Dynamical versus Quenched
The eigenmodes of the Dirac operator carry information about the topological content of the background gauge field. The Atiyah-Singer index theorem tells us that in a sector with topological charge Qt the Dirac operator has at least |Qt| zero modes. In the presence of light dynamical fermions, the light quark determinant should suppress topological sectors with large |Qt|. As a consequence we e...
متن کاملLow-lying Fermion Modes of N F = 2 Improved Wilson Fermions
We present preliminary results for the topological charge and susceptibility determined from the low-lying eigenmodes of the Wilson-Dirac operator. These modes have been computed on dynamical configurations with N f = 2 non-perturbatively improved Wilson fermions. We compare our results with the eigenmodes of fermions in the quenched approximation.
متن کاملTopology and Low Lying Fermion Modes
Low lying fermionic modes are believed to play an important rôle in QCD. This review covers some of the recent developments in the study of the relationship of low lying fermion modes with topology in QCD. The study of topology in general is not covered here. In particular, fermionic eigenmodes (including zero modes) are important in 3 areas discussed here: (1) low lying modes in particle spect...
متن کاملControlling Residual Chiral Symmetry Breaking in Domain Wall Fermion Simulations
At stronger gauge-field couplings, the domain wall fermion (DWF) residual mass (mres), a measure of chiral symmetry breaking (χSB), grows rapidly as it is largely due to near zero fermion eigenmodes of log(T ), where T is the 4D transfer matrix along the fifth dimension. The number of these eigenmodes increase rapidly at strong coupling. To suppress such near-zero eigenmodes, we have added to t...
